The shipping company, celebrating its 50th year connecting the islands this year, extends its support to the trail running race that will have 4,000 runners in 2024
The maritime transport company offers participants and their companions the ‘Sport’ fare, with a 15% discount on inter-island travel
Fred. Olsen Express, a leading company in maritime transportation in the Canary Islands, renews its commitment to The North Face Transgrancanaria for another year. The ferry company, which leads the inter-island market for passengers and vehicles, will once again offer its support to a race that, less than three months before its celebration (February 21-25), expects 4,000 participants. This renewal will allow future participants and their companions to benefit from the Sport fare with a 15% discount on inter-island travel. Departures from the Puerto de Las Nieves (Agaete), next to the company’s docked ships, provide one of the iconic images of the race throughout its history. A scene that will be repeated in 2024.
Lorenzo Spinelli, Commercial Director of Fred. Olsen Express, expresses his joy at “renewing this partnership between two leading companies in their sectors.” “2024 has a special meaning for us: we will celebrate 50 years connecting the islands, and this event will be part of the actions of our commemorative year. The two companies have worked hand in hand, and each year has been better with more participants,” he adds. Regarding the Sport fare, Spinelli notes that it is “a benefit that allows the runner and their companion to travel with a very significant discount.”
On the other hand, Carlos Torrent, Director of The North Face Transgrancanaria, explains that “the main goal of Arista Eventos—the company that organizes the trail race—is to promote Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands worldwide through sports.” “What better than receiving the support of local companies that not only give us room to continue improving and growing but also provide facilities to participants who want to move between islands,” he adds. According to the race director, this is a “fundamental” agreement to “continue hand in hand” in two of the most international projects, The North Face Transgrancanaria and Fred. Olsen Express Transgrancanaria Bike.
Fred. Olsen Express began its maritime commitment to the Canary Islands community in July 1974, first connecting Tenerife and La Gomera, and later expanding to the rest of the archipelago. Currently, it has managed to be present in most of the Canary Islands, becoming the leader in the inter-island market, with more than 3,000,000 passengers, 60,000 pets, one million cars, and about 100,000 cargo vehicles per year, according to data obtained in 2022. In addition, the company’s maritime service began in 2018 to connect the Canary Islands with the Iberian Peninsula by linking Tenerife and Gran Canaria with Huelva.
The North Face Transgrancanaria, organized by Arista Eventos, is sponsored by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria through Turismo de Gran Canaria and Gran Canaria Isla Europea del Deporte, the Government of the Canary Islands with Islas Canarias Latitud de Vida, Maspalomas Costa Canaria, the Municipal Sports Institute of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the City Council of Tejeda; and companies such as The North Face, Fred. Olsen Express, Hospitales Universitarios San Roque, Expomeloneras, 226ERS, and Sonocom Audiovisuales.
