Raul Butaci, the last winner of the Classic, now wins the second longest race
The municipality of Teror hosted for the first time the start of the Advanced, the second longest distance race of The North Face Transgrancanaria, a route of 82 kilometers that separates the Villa Mariana with Parque Sur. More than 900 runners took the spectacular start with the Basilica del Pino as protagonist.
In the women’s category, the Swedish Ida Nilsson, who landed for the first time in Gran Canaria with an impressive track record behind her, did not disappoint, dominating the race from the first kilometers and the first refreshment point in Fontanales. The Swedish athlete reached the finish line in Maspalomas with a time of 08:34:54. In second place would cross the finish line the Spanish Anna Tarasova, who despite being second throughout the race, never allowed the winner to distance herself too much, having a great performance reaching only five minutes behind the winner. Her great times were enough for Nilsson and Tarsova to finish eighth and ninth in the overall classification respectively. The third place on the podium went to Poland’s Katarzyna Solinska, who clocked a time under nine hours.

In the men’s category, Raul Butaci and Oswaldo Medina from Gran Canaria had a nice fight for the lead during the first half of the race, where they were almost evenly matched until Tejeda. From there, the Romanian rider based in Lleida gradually widened the lead until crossing the finish line at the stroke of five in the afternoon. Butaci, with two participations in the Marathon and another two in the Classic behind him, tried this time in the Advanced with an impossible better result. While the Gran Canarian obtained his best result after participating in other editions of the Advanced and the Marathon. The third place went to the debutant Tomás Hudec, from the Czech Republic, who stopped the stopwatch just four minutes behind his predecessor.
