Gran Canaria, epicenter of international trail running

The 27th edition of The North Face Transgrancanaria will once again bring together thousands of runners from around the world in an event where Gran Canaria will be the global epicenter of trail running. The race will kick off on Wednesday, March 4 with the Vertical Kilometer El Gigante from the Agaete Valley, followed on Thursday, March 5 by the Half and Promo races. Friday, March 6 will be one of the most anticipated days, with the start of the two main races: in the morning the Marathon, and at midnight the iconic Classic race, part of the international Gran Canaria World Trail Majors circuit, starting from Las Canteras Beach. On Saturday, March 7, early in the morning, the Advanced, Short, and Family races will start, closing the bulk of the event’s categories.

Courses and locations updates

The North Face Transgrancanaria 2026 arrives with important changes in its courses. Among the most notable changes is the return of the Classic and Advanced races to Roque Nublo, which was absent in the previous edition pending a regulation allowing an orderly and environmentally respectful ascent to the monolith. After several months of work and collaboration with the Gran Canaria Island Council’s Department of Environment, participants in these two categories will finally be allowed access. The North Face Transgrancanaria will continue its efforts to promote respect and awareness for the care of nature and this emblematic site in the Canary Islands, where only participants and race staff will be granted access.

Another update is the Half race, which will now start from the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, and the renewed Short race (formerly Youth), which will take place entirely in the municipality of Teror, sharing the course with the Family category. This short distance will also be open to training categories.

The North Face Transgrancanaria is organized by Arista Eventos and sponsored by the Gran Canaria Island Council through Turismo de Gran Canaria and the Island Sports Institute; the Government of the Canary Islands with Islas Canarias Latitud de Vida; the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council through the Municipal Sports Institute; the municipalities of Teror and Tejeda. It is also supported by companies including The North Face, Hospitales Universitarios San Roque, Lopesan Hotel Group, ExpoMeloneras, 226ERS, Fred. Olsen Express, Sonocom Audiovisuales, and Aguas de Teror.
