American runner Tara Fraga won with over 20 minutes ahead of Swiss Kathrin Götz, while the male champion was 10 minutes faster than the runner-up, Davide Cheraz.

Tara Fraga and Andrzej Witek have been the winners of The North Face Transgrancanaria Advanced race after being the fastest to complete the 84 kilometers between Puerto de Las Nieves and Parque Sur de Maspalomas. The race, held throughout Saturday, also determined the Canary Islands ultradistance championship, where Claudia Mola and Albi Cedrés emerged victorious.

The Advanced race started early Saturday morning from Puerto de Las Nieves in Agaete, leading participants to the Tamadaba Natural Park and, after traversing the Tejeda Caldera, heading south of the island. It was a demanding race where runners had to face not only the rugged terrain but also temperature changes between the island’s two slopes.

American Tara Fraga set a pace superior to her competitors and passed all the checkpoints of the race in first position, allowing her to reach the Parque Sur finish line (09:38:37) with almost 25 minutes of a lead over the second, Swiss Kathrin Götz. Behind them, Slovenian Martina Klancnik took third place with a six-minute advantage over Spaniard Sara Sanante.

In the men’s category, Polish runner Andrzej Witek (08:11:23) crossed the finish line with a 10-minute gap from Italian Davide Cheraz (08:21:26), although both runners were together at the first three checkpoints. It was from Roque Nublo when the Polish runner took the lead to reach the finish line as the leader. In third position, Spaniard Borja Fernández climbed from fifth place at the Tunte checkpoint to secure the last spot on the podium with a time of 08:30:30, ahead of British Hugh Chatfield and Italian Matteo Anselmi.

Claudia Mola and Albi Cedrés, Canary Islands champions

The Advanced race also crowned the Canary Islands mountain running champion in the ultradistance category, in the so-called Ultra Champ Fecamon 2024. In the women’s category, the champion was Claudia Mola (11:27:53), tenth in the general classification, ahead of María Luisa Díez de Revenga and Yamila Medina.

As for the men’s category, the victory went to Albi Cedrés from Lanzarote (08:53:50), who finished sixth in the general classification. The runner-up was Laureano Sobral (09:22:45) and third place went to Yonet González.
