The Gran Canarian municipality joins as a new sponsor of the race and will also host the start and finish of the Youth and Family races

The mayor of Teror, Sergio Nuez, emphasizes that The North Face Transgrancanaria will serve as a showcase for the municipality to promote itself internationally

“Teror is a trail running capital, as evidenced by the start of these three races,” highlights Fernando González, CEO of Arista Eventos

Teror will no longer be just a nighttime checkpoint for the Classic course of The North Face Transgrancanaria. Starting next February, the Marian village will host the start of the Advanced course, the second-longest race, as well as the start and finish of the Youth and Family races for three years.

This was revealed on Tuesday during the press conference presenting the sponsorship agreement in which the Teror City Council adds its support to The North Face Transgrancanaria. Present at the event were the municipality’s mayor, Sergio Nuez; the Sports Councilor, Moisés Rodríguez; the President of Aguas de Teror, Mónica Nuez; the CEO of Aguas de Teror, José Agustín Arencibia; the CEO of Arista Eventos (the race organizing company), Fernando González; and the Marketing Director of The North Face Transgrancanaria, Wendy Cruz.

“For Teror, in terms of sports, economy, and tourism, this is a milestone, and it marks the responsibility we have with sports and mountain races,” emphasized the mayor, who believes that the start of the three races marks “a before and after.” “What better place to start than here, the nerve center of the island and the home of its patron saint, the Virgin of the Pine,” added Sergio Nuez, who stated that the municipality will use the platform of the main international race in the Canary Islands to promote itself.

Meanwhile, the Sports Councilor indicated that Teror offers its natural surroundings and trail network as attractions for trail running. “Many runners come daily to practice, and we promote nature and physical activity,” added Rodríguez. He also mentioned that hosting these races will boost the town’s economy, both in the accommodation and hospitality sectors.

Fernando González, CEO of Arista Eventos, expressed his happiness with this agreement and emphasized that the town “is one of the most important places for trail running development, not only in the Canary Islands but also in Spain.” This confirms the municipality’s commitment to such events, as aside from The North Face Transgrancanaria, it hosts significant races like the Aguas de Teror Trail Desafío de los Picos and El Álamo Race. “People will enjoy it and it will be easier to showcase the beauty of Teror during the day,” added González, who also highlighted the focus on nurturing young talent with the Youth race and celebrating family with the Family event.

Lastly, Mónica Nuez, President of Aguas de Teror, emphasized that the municipality’s company, also a sponsor of the race, reaffirms its commitment to the community and its corporate social responsibility in the areas of sports and healthy living.

The next edition of The North Face Transgrancanaria will be held from February 18 to 23, 2025, with registrations opening on July 3. It is a race organized by Arista Eventos with the sponsorship of the institutions Cabildo de Gran Canaria, through Gran Canaria Tourism and the Insular Institute of Sports; the Government of the Canary Islands with Islas Canarias Latitud de Vida; Maspalomas Costa Canaria; the Municipal Institute of Sports of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; the Teror City Council, and the Tejeda City Council. Additionally, it is supported by companies such as The North Face, San Roque University Hospitals, Fred. Olsen Express, 226ERS, Sonocom Audiovisuales, Lopesan Hotel Group, ExpoMeloneras, and Aguas de Teror.
