The Classic distance of The North Face Transgrancanaria 2026 has officially filled its participant quota, joining the Marathon, Promo, and Advanced distances that had previously sold out. With this new confirmation, four distances have now sold out for the 2026 edition of one of the most prestigious international mountain races.
The Classic, the event’s flagship race, will have its spectacular start from the iconic Las Canteras beach on Friday, March 6 at 11:59 PM. It features the most challenging course of the entire program: 126 kilometers with 6,764 meters of positive elevation gain, culminating in Parque Sur de Maspalomas. This year, the distance will once again pass through the emblematic Roque Nublo, in a race that offers participants the best way to see why Gran Canaria is considered a “miniature continent.”
Additionally, the Classic will again be a part of the prestigious international circuit World Trail Majors, solidifying its relevance in the global trail running scene.
Fourth distance sold out
The closing of registrations for the Classic distance, still in the month of September, reflects the growing international interest in this sporting event and especially in its most demanding race for the 27th edition of the prestigious Canarian event. The other distances also maintain a high level of occupancy. The Half is practically full with 98% of registrations taken, while the KV El Gigante has 94% occupancy. Meanwhile, the Short and Family distances each have 70% of registered participants. The event already has more than 5,000 runners from 68 different nationalities, confirming its status as one of the most cosmopolitan trail running events in the world.
The legacy of the Classic
The Classic distance has established itself as one of the most respected mountain races globally. Last year, American Caleb Olson (Nike Trail) put on a breathtaking performance, completing the course in a time of 12 hours, 17 minutes, and 25 seconds. The men’s podium was completed by British runners from The North Face team, Jonathan Albon and Josh Wade. In the women’s category, Norwegian Henriette Albon won convincingly, with more than an hour lead over Spain’s Claudia Tremps and Slovenia’s Martina Klančnik.

Likewise, the four distances that have sold out (Marathon, Promo, Advanced, and Classic) have a waiting list enabled to cover any potential openings that may arise before the event.
The North Face Transgrancanaria 2026 will take place from March 4 to 8, confirming the growing appeal of Gran Canaria as a global trail running destination and the strength of this event as it prepares for its 27th edition.
