The race already counts runners from 68 nationalities and registrations remain open for an edition that will expand its schedule to a full week of trail running
The The North Face Transgrancanaria 2027 has already surpassed 5,000 registered runners, with more than five months still to go before the event, consolidating the growth of one of the major international trail running events. The next edition will take place from 22 to 28 February, expanding its schedule to offer a full week of competition, adventure and mountain running on the island of Gran Canaria.
The participation figures are also marked by a strong international presence. So far, the entry list includes runners from 68 nationalities, with a significant presence from some of the event’s main international markets. France already has close to 300 participants, while the United Kingdom has more than 250 and Germany and Italy are approaching 200 each. Overall, more than 40% of registered runners come from abroad, while 65% come from outside the province of Las Palmas. Female participation currently stands at 35%.

Two new race formats expand the programme
The 2027 programme also includes two major new additions. One of them is Stages, a new format that will allow participants to experience four days of competition, with Open Agáldar, Kilómetro Vertical El Gigante, Promo and Advanced as its four featured races. The format will allow runners to explore different settings across Gran Canaria over four days while retaining the adventurous spirit of The North Face Transgrancanaria.
The new Open Agáldar will also open the competitive programme on Tuesday 23 February at 9:00 a.m., starting from San José de Caideros. The new race will cover 21.4 kilometres with 613 metres of positive elevation gain and will take The North Face Transgrancanaria to the municipality of Gáldar for the first time, expanding the event’s territorial reach as it connects different municipalities and landscapes across the island throughout the week.
A full week of trail running in Gran Canaria
The The North Face Transgrancanaria 2027 will once again turn Gran Canaria into one of the world’s leading trail running destinations, with an expanded schedule starting on Tuesday 23 February with the aforementioned Open Agáldar and continuing on Wednesday 24 with the Kilómetro Vertical El Gigante. Thursday 25 will feature the Half and Promo races.
Friday 26 February will bring one of the central moments of the edition, with the Marathon starting in the morning and the iconic Classic starting at midnight from Playa de Las Canteras, both part of the international World Trail Majors circuit. On Saturday 27, the Advanced, Short and Family races will start early from the municipality of Teror, completing the competitive programme. In this way, Gran Canaria will once again bring together different competition formats over the course of a week, from vertical races and shorter distances to ultra-distance events.
The response from runners has already led to three race formats selling out. Promo, Open Agáldar and Marathon have all filled their available places and now have waiting lists, while registrations remain open for the other distances.

A Transgrancanaria sustainable by nature
The growth in participation goes hand in hand with the organisation’s commitment to sustainability. The 2027 edition will maintain the overall number of available places and will even reduce capacity in some formats, moving towards an increasingly responsible model that takes the territory into account. Measures including optimised mobility, energy efficiency, the promotion of good practices among participants, suppliers and spectators, and registration in the Canary Islands Carbon Footprint Registry are part of the initiatives planned to make this the most sustainable edition in the history of the event.
With more than 5,000 registered runners and a full week of competition ahead, The North Face Transgrancanaria 2027 once again places Gran Canaria among the world’s leading trail running destinations. Registrations remain open through the race’s official website.
The North Face Transgrancanaria is organised by Arista Eventos and is sponsored by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, through Turismo de Gran Canaria and the Instituto Insular de Deportes; Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, through the Instituto Municipal de Deportes; Gáldar City Council; San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council; Teror City Council; Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council; and Tejeda City Council.
