The Cabildo de Gran Canaria recognizes the event in the tourism category for its contribution to the island’s international profile and its prestige on the world circuit
Fernando González, CEO of Arista Eventos—the race’s organizing company—notes that this recognition “is a prize for the perseverance and hard work of the entire Arista family over more than two decades.”
The Plenary of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria approved this Friday the granting of its 2026 Honors and Distinctions. The list includes 19 individuals and entities that have decisively contributed to the well-being and improvement of the island. Among them is The North Face Transgrancanaria, which will receive the Roque Nublo de Gran Canaria in the field of tourism.
The Cabildo highlights the trajectory of an event that, every winter, transforms Gran Canaria into the world capital of trail running. The island institution specifically recognizes its ability to attract thousands of athletes from across the globe, drawn by unique landscapes full of contrasts, consolidating the island as a reference point for international tourism through one of the most prestigious competitions on the global circuit.
Fernando González, CEO of Arista Eventos, stated that “receiving the Roque Nublo is an immense honor for which we want to deeply thank the Cabildo de Gran Canaria.” He continued, “This recognition is a reward for the constancy and work carried out by everyone in the Arista family over the last 23 years. We have put all our effort into making The North Face Transgrancanaria much more than just a mountain race: it is a window from the island to the world.”
“Since we began this journey, our goal has always been sporting excellence and the promotion of our territory. Seeing today that The North Face Transgrancanaria is an international sports benchmark and that the island is recognized globally for its ability to host events of this level motivates us to continue working with the same passion as the first day,” González indicated.
“The North Face Transgrancanaria was born here and belongs to this island. Therefore, looking to the future involves taking on a great challenge and a great responsibility: sustainability. Our commitment is to continue moving toward an increasingly sustainable Transgrancanaria that cares for, protects, and promotes our greatest treasure, Gran Canaria’s natural environment,” concluded González. He thanked the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, especially the Department of Tourism, for this recognition, as well as all Gran Canarians “because they are also part of The North Face Transgrancanaria.”
A Global Milestone
The North Face Transgrancanaria has established itself as a milestone on the trail running calendar. The Roque Nublo de Gran Canaria award thus rewards the pursuit of excellence in the tourism sector, resulting in greater diversification and quality of services offered on the island through nature-based sports.
The next edition, taking place from March 4 to 8, will solidify its global character with more than 6,000 participants from 70 countries. The event will feature a broad international representation from strategic markets such as France, the United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as runners arriving from corners as diverse as China, Brazil, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, and South Africa. This international success is complemented by solid local support, with over 2,000 Canarian registrants.
The distinction will be presented on March 13 at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, as part of the 113th anniversary of the creation of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria.
