Participants will experience four days of competition featuring the Open Agáldar, KV El Gigante, Promo and Advanced races as the main highlights – Registration opens on July 1st, with a 48-hour flash offer featuring reduced prices across all modalities and an additional discount for runners residing in the Canary Islands

The North Face Transgrancanaria expands its sporting programme with the introduction of a new stage-based format, the Stages, a unique experience that will allow participants to explore some of the most iconic landscapes of Gran Canaria over four days of trail running.

The Stages format will debut in the 2027 edition and will be composed of four distinct races, each with its own technical and scenic character, offering a complete overview of the island’s diversity.

The adventure will begin on Tuesday, February 23rd, 2027, with the Open Agáldar (21.4 km), a fast and predominantly downhill race that crosses the municipality of Gáldar from the midlands to its historic town centre, marking the start of the event.

The second day, on Wednesday, February 24th, will feature the KV El Gigante (5.5 km), a demanding vertical ascent with more than 1,000 metres of positive elevation gain between the Agaete Valley and the Tamadaba peaks.

On Thursday, February 25th, the third stage will take place: the Promo (12 km), a technical route between Artenara and Tejeda that runs through some of the most spectacular trails of the Caldera de Tejeda.

The Stages modality will conclude on Saturday, February 27th, with the Advanced (81.8 km), one of the most iconic races of The North Face Transgrancanaria, linking Teror with Maspalomas while crossing the heart of the island and accumulating more than 4,000 metres of positive elevation gain.

The introduction of the Stages format is joined by another major new feature of the 2027 programme: the creation of the Open Agáldar, which will open the competition calendar on February 23rd with a route designed for speed, accessibility and sporting spectacle.

A week of trail running

With this expansion, The North Face Transgrancanaria strengthens its position as one of the world’s leading trail running events, extending its duration across the entire week. The event will begin on Monday, February 22nd, with the opening of the Trail Zone at Expomeloneras, and will conclude on Sunday, February 28th, with the prize-giving ceremony at the same venue.

The director of The North Face Transgrancanaria, Carlos González, stated that: “The launch of the Stages modality represents a step forward in the way we understand trail running. We want to offer an experience that goes beyond a single race, where runners can experience the evolution of the landscape, effort and emotion over several days in Gran Canaria.”

“Each stage has been designed to showcase a different side of the island: from the speed of Gáldar to the vertical challenge of KV El Gigante, through the magic of the Caldera de Tejeda and culminating in one of the great ultras of the international calendar,” González added. “It is, in essence, a way of experiencing The North Face Transgrancanaria in a deeper and more complete way.”

“We are convinced that Stages will attract runners seeking more than just a race: an unforgettable sporting and human experience,” the race director concluded.
