The international association PTRA distinguishes the Canarian race for the measures it has implemented over the years to improve female participation and experience in trail running
The North Face Transgrancanaria has been awarded the Gold medal of the PTRA Women Equality Recognition programme, the highest distinction granted by the Pro Trail Runners Association (PTRA) to sports organisations committed to equality in trail running. The award recognises not only the actions implemented, but the consistency of a commitment the race has maintained and developed over time.
The PTRA Women’s Equality Working Group highlights that Transgrancanaria has built a strong foundation on which to keep moving forward, and that its initiatives represent a benchmark for the rest of the international trail running circuit.

Measures recognised by the PTRA
Among the criteria that motivated the distinction are equal prize money for men and women, greater female visibility and representation in the race’s communications, and more accessible cut-off times to facilitate participation. The organisation has also introduced feminine hygiene products at aid stations and set up safe spaces such as the Punto Violeta — a measure that goes beyond sport and reflects a firm commitment to the wellbeing of participants.
“Recognising these initiatives also has a clear purpose: to inspire other races to continue moving in this direction.” — Pro Trail Runners Association (PTRA)
The PTRA Gold Recognition reinforces the position of The North Face Transgrancanaria as one of the world’s leading trail running races — an event that combines the sporting challenge of its routes across Gran Canaria with an organisation committed to the values of a more inclusive and equitable sport.
