55% of the registered runners are from outside the Canary Islands
Athletes from 70 different countries will come to Gran Canaria to compete in the race
Places available in the Youth and Family categories
The North Face Transgrancanaria 2025 has sold out all the race bibs for the competitive races of its 26th edition. It is the first time that the organization must close registrations within six months ahead. Last year, the places were sold out in November, in an edition that had an economic return of 22.6 million euros. But the 2025 edition, which will take place from February 19 to 23, has broken all records in terms of registered runners.
Since the registration period opened at the beginning of July, the pace has been frenetic. In the first 72 hours, the bibs for the Marathon were sold out with 1,300 participants, and a total of 3,400 athletes from 60 countries had already signed up. In the first two weeks, the number of registered runners rose to more than 3,800, and during the month of July two more races, the Promo and the Half, were sold out too. In August, it was the turn of KV El Gigante and the Advanced races, and today the registrations are completed in all its competitive modalities after closing the Classic race. The organization still leaves open the last bibs for the races that are for all ages and family members, the Youth and the Family.
With the 26th edition of The North Face Transgrancanaria, Gran Canaria will be the epicentre of the trail running world for a week, and the first major international event on the races calendar. For this reason, more than 2,500 runners from outside the Canary Islands will travel to the island to participate in any of its eight modalities, a number that represents 55% of the total number of registered participants. In addition, nearly 2,000 participants will be foreign athletes, the majority from countries such as France, the United Kingdom, Belgium or Germany. In total, athletes of 70 different nationalities will run along the beautiful landscapes of Gran Canaria, coming from international places such as South Africa, Hong Kong, New Zealand, the Philippines or Cuba. Another important matter is the number of Canarian runners, which has increased by 30% compared to last year, demonstrating that local runners are key to the growth of the event.
The Councillor for Sports of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Aridany Romero, has congratulated the organisation of The North Face Transgrancanaria for achieving a new success in terms of participation in this new edition, as all the race bibs have been sold out six months before the event was held. “The fact that in the first two weeks more than 3,800 runners had already registered shows that the Transgrancanaria is one of the most eagerly awaited sporting events of all those held on the island.”
For the councillor, “The North Face Transgrancanaria brings the most outstanding athletes from the country and the world to Gran Canaria every year, who not only come to compete, but also to enjoy the landscapes and the weather of Gran Canaria.” “Gran Canaria will once again be the world’s focus for trail running, with nearly 2,000 foreign athletes registered,” Romero concluded.
The director of the race, Carlos Torrent, also declared that “at Arista Eventos we are really impressed by the numbers we have achieved six months before the event. Instead of freezing the numbers, The North Face Transgrancanaria is an event in continuous growth and evolution, and with a 100% Canarian organisation that is a reference in the world.”
“We will keep registrations open for the Saturday events in Teror, the Youth and Family events, both races are suitable for all ages and with which we want to promote sports among the youngest. For the rest of the distances we have an open waiting list for those races in which we have the capacity to cover possible vacancies in the upcoming dates,” adds Torrent.
The starting signal of the entire The North Face Transgrancanaria 2025 show will be on February 19 in Valle de Agaete with the splendid KV El Gigante. It will be the first of the eight modalities of an edition that promises to be legendary, which will start its last race on Saturday 22 with the Advanced, and will conclude the entire event on Sunday 23 with the trophy ceremony in Maspalomas.
2025 brings the brand new start of the second longest race, the Advanced, from the town of Teror, as well as the start and finish of the Youth and Family races in the so-called “Villa Mariana”. The runners will once again have to adapt to the climate changes characteristic of the island; the haze; the cold in the mountains; the unpredictable rains or the heat of the southern face of Gran Canaria. An adventure for the most intrepid and the most prepared runners.
The 2025 edition will once again be sponsored by The North Face and the main event, the Classic, will count towards the international Gran Canaria World Trail Majors circuit, along with nine of the most important ultra-distance races in the world.
The North Face Transgrancanaria is a race organized by Arista Eventos that is sponsored by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria institutions, through Turismo de Gran Canaria and the Insular Sports Institute; the Government of the Canary Islands with the Canary Islands Latitude of Life; Maspalomas Costa Canaria; the Municipal Sports Institute of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; the Teror City Council and the Tejeda City Council.
