These two events in the upcoming edition of The North Face Transgrancanaria will be part of the new Canarian mountain circuit

VK El Gigante will be the first event in the KV Fecamon Tour, while the Advanced will be the sole race in the Canarian Ultramarathon Championship

The Advanced and Vertical Kilometer El Gigante modalities of the upcoming The North Face Transgrancanaria will be part of the Skyrunning Fecamon 2024, the new circuit of the Canarian Mountaineering Federation characterized by races that respect natural values and safety.

Skyrunning Fecamon is the official circuit of Mountain Races of the Canarian Mountaineering Federation and will consist of Fecamon Tour, equivalent to the Cup format, and Fecamon Champ, equivalent to the Championship. Both share the ultimate goal of meeting participants’ expectations and serving as a reference for selecting athletes to represent the Canary Islands in future national competitions.

Vertical Kilometer El Gigante will be the first of the three races that make up the KV Fecamon Tour alongside Tagoja and Vertical de Guelguén, both on the island of La Palma. The accumulated points from the three events will determine the final classification of this modality’s cup.

Vertical Kilometer El Gigante will kick off The North Face Transgrancanaria 2024 on Wednesday, February 21. The race starts from the Valley of Agaete and finishes in Tamadaba. While the distance is only 5.5 kilometers, the positive elevation gain is 1,100 meters, testing the participants’ strength.

On the other hand, the Advanced will be the only scoring race for the Ultra Fecamon Champ, the Canarian ultradistance championship, available only in the absolute female and male categories.

The Advanced is the second longest race of The North Face Transgrancanaria with 84 kilometers, and in the upcoming edition, it is scheduled to start on Saturday, February 24, from the Puerto de Las Nieves in Agaete. Runners will need to accumulate over 4,700 meters of positive elevation gain and another 4,700 meters of negative elevation to cross the finish line in Maspalomas, passing through iconic places like Tamadaba, Rural Park of Nublo, Artenara, and Tejeda.

The North Face Transgrancanaria is organized by Arista Eventos and is sponsored by institutions such as the Cabildo de Gran Canaria through Gran Canaria Tourism and Gran Canaria European Island of Sport, the Government of the Canary Islands with Canary Islands Latitude of Life, Maspalomas Costa Canaria, the Municipal Sports Institute of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the Tejeda City Council; and companies like The North Face, Fred. Olsen Express, San Roque University Hospitals, Expomeloneras, 226ERS, and Sonocom Audiovisuals.
