The new 21-kilometre race, scheduled for Tuesday, February 23, reaches full capacity just one week after registration opened

The North Face Transgrancanaria has already surpassed 4,200 registered runners, while the Marathon is also close to selling out with 97% of entries filled

The North Face Transgrancanaria continues to confirm the growing interest surrounding its 2027 edition. After the Promo race sold out within just 24 hours of registration opening, the organisation has now closed registrations for the brand-new Open Agáldar, which reached full capacity only one week after entries went on sale.

The new 21-kilometre race will make its debut on Tuesday, February 23, as part of the event programme, welcoming 500 runners and immediately establishing itself as one of the major new additions to this year’s edition. The race will start at 9:00 a.m. from the village of San José de Caideros and finish in Gáldar after passing through several other areas of the municipality, including Saucillo, El Agazal and Barrial.

The strong pace of registrations has already pushed The North Face Transgrancanaria beyond 4,200 participants, who will take to the trails of Gran Canaria between February 22 and 28 across eight different race formats. Among this year’s main innovations is Stages, a four-stage competition combining the results of the Open Agáldar, KV El Gigante, Promo and Advanced races.

The North Face Transgrancanaria Race Director Carlos González highlighted the outstanding reception of the Open Agáldar. “This new race, developed in partnership with the Gáldar City Council, has exceeded all our expectations in its first year. Five hundred runners will enjoy a course featuring remarkable contrasts, from the lush midlands around San José de Caideros to landscapes closer to the coast, passing through unique locations such as Barranco del Juncal and Amagro,” he said.

Gáldar Mayor Teodoro Sosa also praised the response to the event. “The extraordinary reception of the Open Agáldar demonstrates the huge interest generated by a race that was created with the ambition of becoming a benchmark event in the trail running world. The initial entries sold out almost immediately, forcing us to increase the field to more than 500 runners, a figure that reflects the excitement this project has generated,” he said.

He also emphasised that “this race will allow participants to discover some of the municipality’s most spectacular natural landscapes, showcasing Gáldar’s outstanding scenery while reinforcing its position as a privileged destination for outdoor sports and nature tourism.”

As with the Promo race, the organisation has opened a waiting list, allowing interested runners to secure a place should any registered participants withdraw.

The remaining race formats continue to attract strong demand. The 47-kilometre Marathon is now close to reaching capacity, with 97% of its entries already sold. It is followed by the Advanced (80%), Half and KV El Gigante (both 75%), Classic (70%), Short (45%), while the Family and Stages events have already reached 35% of their available entries.

Naturally Sustainable

The 28th edition of The North Face Transgrancanaria will once again place sustainability at the heart of the event under the slogan “Naturally Sustainable”. A wide range of initiatives will be implemented before, during and after race week to minimise the event’s environmental impact and continue reducing its carbon footprint.

The North Face Transgrancanaria is organised by Arista Eventos with the support of the Gran Canaria Island Council through Turismo de Gran Canaria and the Gran Canaria Sports Institute; the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria through its Municipal Sports Institute; the municipalities of Gáldar, Villa de San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Teror, Santa Lucía de Tirajana and Tejeda. The event is also supported by The North Face, Hospitales Universitarios San Roque, Lopesan Hotel Group, ExpoMeloneras, 226ERS, Fred. Olsen Express, Sonocom Audiovisuales and Aguas de Teror.
