The British runner, winner in CCC and Western States, will run the Classic in 2025
The former British Army Captain won the Advanced of The North Face Transgrancanaria in 2022
Tom Evans (Sussex, 1992) will be on the starting line of the Classic, a race that will once again be part of the Gran Canaria World Trail Majors international circuit in 2025. The British athlete, who already ran and won in the 2022 Advanced, will try to repeat his triumph this time in the 126 kilometers race starting at the iconic Playa de Las Canteras beach in the capital city of Gran Canaria.
The UK runner has an ITRA index of 917, in addition to a meteoric trajectory in the world of trail running, which in his early years he combined with his military career as a captain in the British Army until 2019.
Evans ran his first ultradistance race in 2016 in Wales, the Beacons Ultra, where he debuted with victory. His first major international podium came at his next race, the Marathon des Sables on Moroccan soil, where he managed to finish the 229 kilometers in third place at just 25 years old. A few months later he ran his first CCC, finishing fourth on the podium. To explode definitively from 2018 and begin to carve an important name in the trail.
His main successes as an ultradistance runner are the CCC (2018) and the Western States 100 Mile (2023) in his home country. Evans also finished third in the World Trail Championships at Penyagolosa Trails (2018).
The British athlete accumulated victories in races such as Tarawera Ultramarathon (2020); The North Face Transgrancanaria Advanced (2022) or MIUT Madeira Island Ultra-Trail (2022). In addition to such valuable triumphs, the runner has added podiums at Lake Sonoma (third in 2019); UTMB Mont Blanc (third in 2022) and Black Canyon Ultras (second in 2023).
Evans will try this 2025 to seek victory in the Classic and repeat his iconic military salute at the finish line in Maspalomas. The British runner joins two other big names such as Jonathan Albon and Yngvild Kaspersen who will make up, together with others, a pleiad of athletes that the organization will be revealing in the coming weeks, to confirm that we are facing a historic edition of The North Face Transgrancanaria.
The North Face Transgrancanaria is a race organized by Arista Eventos that is sponsored by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria institutions, through Turismo de Gran Canaria and the Insular Sports Institute; the Government of the Canary Islands with the Canary Islands Latitude of Life; Maspalomas Costa Canaria; the Municipal Sports Institute of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; the Teror City Council and the Tejeda City Council. In addition, it has the support of private companies as The North Face, San Roque University Hospitals, and Fred. Olsen Express, 226ERS, Sonocom Audiovisuales, Lopesan Hotel Group, ExpoMeloneras and Aguas de Teror.
