The North Face athlete will run in the KV El Gigante
The American returns to Gran Canaria after his participation in last year’s Classic race
Zach Miller, one of the best trail runners on the international scene, will participate for the second consecutive year in The North Face Transgrancanaria. The American athlete, born in Kenya in 1988, will be present in the KV El Gigante that will have the starting line in the Agaete Valley on Wednesday, February 19. The 5.5-kilometer course and the presence of the runner from The North Face team ensure a great spectacle in the inaugural race of the 26th edition of the Gran Canaria race.
The 36-year-old runner, known for his peculiar style of sprinting to the finish line in the last meters, was a high school soccer player and even worked on a cruise ship for a year and a half, where he used the stairs and the ship’s deck to train, winning the JFK 50 Mile in 2013 and the Lake Sonoma 50 Mile in 2014. He was also the first American to win the Ultra-Trail Du Mont-Blanc CCC (2015) and was runner-up in UTMB (2023).
Currently, Miller has an ITRA index of 909. His list of accolades includes two victories in The North Face Endurance Challenge California (2015 and 2016); Tarawera Ultramarathon (2023); Trail 100 Andorra (2022) The North Face Lavaredo Ultra Trail (2018); Madeira Island Ultra Trail (2016) and the aforementioned Lake Sonoma 50 (2014).
This will be the second consecutive year of the laureate North American runner in the Gran Canaria race, where this time he will participate in the KV El Gigante with the iconic start in the valley of Agaete. Miller and the rest of the runners will have before them 1,130 meters of positive elevation in only 5.5 kilometers with the Tamadaba massif as a witness. The American joins a list of elite runners already confirmed as Jonathan Albon; Yngvild Kaspersen or Tom Evans, in a record edition with more than 5,300 registered runners from 70 different countries.
The North Face Transgrancanaria is a race organized by Arista Eventos that is sponsored by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria institutions, through Turismo de Gran Canaria and the Insular Sports Institute; the Government of the Canary Islands with the Canary Islands Latitude of Life; Maspalomas Costa Canaria; the Municipal Sports Institute of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; the Teror City Council and the Tejeda City Council. In addition, it has the support of private companies as The North Face, San Roque University Hospitals, and Fred. Olsen Express, 226ERS, Sonocom Audiovisuales, Lopesan Hotel Group, ExpoMeloneras and Aguas de Teror.
